Trappings of wealth, power and authority that is manifest function to blind the very best of humans, and Brahma son Daksha was no exception.

He found the apparent absence of rustic and wealth appearance unacceptable of Shiva. However about his father Brahma's insistence he had reluctantly allowed the marriage of Sati and Shiva.

To appease his awareness of affront, however, Daksha proceeded to plot and subsequently insulted Shiva by not encouraging him on a Yajna and then by openly lampooning Shiva and Sati in his Yajna. The very first individual was Rishi Dadhichi. He was the first one to leave the fantastic assembly called by Daksh for said Yajna.

Following the passing out of Sati, and her reincarnation as Parvati, Rishi Dadhichi made it his personal point to stop by the Parvat Naresh (King of Mountains) Himvan to train his daughter in the ways of Shiva worship. Owing to his great dedication, Shiva had blessed him with a boon that had changed his bones to thunder. 

Shiva taught the spirit of the Mahamrityunjay Mantra to any other mortal into Dadhichi, hitherto unknown.

Dadhichi has also talented of understanding about the secrets of the creation of the planet and the world, the boon. These are understanding that Dadhichi had passed to Devi Parvati, with the help of Goddess of Wisdom-Goddess Saraswati. It's through the afterwards avatars of Goddess Parvati that things occurred to extol the virtues of Shakti and Shiva.

The lesson though one may draw from Lord Shiva and Rishi Dadhichi's instance is that the occasion where its zenith is reached by Rishi Dadhichi's power of Bhakti for Lord Shiva.

Even the Demons under the leadership of Vritasura, one of the sons of Danu- the mum of the Danav Race, had made the boon of being immune to all traditional weapons made of steel, iron, and wood. 

The Devas faced devastating beats in his hands and the King of Gods Indra needed his limbs broken, such was the energy of Vritasura.

Desperate, the Gods went to Lord Vishnu. They were advised by lord Vishnu , Vritasura could only be slain by weapons forged by the bones of a sage. Unsure about which sage would voluntarily give up his life for Indra, the Gods asked for further guidance. Lord Vishnu called Rishi Dadhichi as the most acceptable candidate.

Indra was not bothered to go to Rishi Dadhichi because he had on an earlier occasion challenged and beheaded Rishi Dadhichi for teaching the Madhuvidya (the understanding of reinstating life in a dead body) to the Ashwini twins (Gods of sunrise and Sunset, who brought riches to guys and removed obstacles). 

The Ashwini twins had saved the Madhuvidya being used by Dadhichi. Indra was unsure if he would be cursed by Rishi Dadhichi and make his life depressed on account of his request. Rishis were proven to possess the capability to curse Gods to plights.

Given his predicament Indra had to visit Rishi Dadhichi and was out of choices. Lord Shiva and Rishi Dadhichi were so evenly in sync with the principles of asceticism the great Rishi consented to give his life up for the greater good.

His bones would be better off rather than being buried somewhere in the floor. Dadhichi used his blessing of invincibility from Lord Shiva to help Indra, despite Indra's former affront, because it was the larger good that has been in danger from the menace of Vritasura.

Such forms of supreme sacrifice could be made only by people who place absolutely no significance in their very own person, considering even their own bodies as a matter that would become subject to rust, therefore not worthy of being relegated to. 

The relationship between Lord Shiva and Rishi Dadhichi tests the latter's solve to the fullest and he wins mokshya with his perseverance and dedication to the divine will.

Though there are hymns, prayers, and mantras, recited to perform Maha Shivratri puja, one mantra gains precedence over all others. Exactly it is given below with its meaning.

Mantra: Om Tryambakam Yajaamahe  Sugandhim Pushti-Vardhanam  Urvaarukamiva Bandhanaan Mrityor Mukshi Yamamritaat

Meaning: May He acute our Bondage of Samsara (Worldly Life), like a Cucumber (severed from the bondage of its Creeper), and thus Liberate us from the Fear of Death, making us realize that we are never separated from our Immortal Character.

Truly, the glory of Lord Shiva and the winner are boundless like him! Glory to the God of gods! Glory to the Lord Mahadeva that is great over and over!
